Sharp Appoints New Boss to Europe

AV Magazine reports that Yoshihisa (Bob) Ishida, executive vice president, Sharp Corporation, has been appointed to the position of ceo, Sharp Europe.

He takes over from Tetsuji (Ted) Kawamura, who will be moving to a position at Sharp Electronics Corporation (USA).

Ishida joined Sharp Corporation as executive vice president in June 2017. In addition to this, he holds two concurrent positions, head of the newly created AIoT Business Strategy office, and ceo, Sharp Europe. The AIoT Business Strategy office looks at Sharp’s application of AIoT, a fusion of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things), to a range of electronic products for the home and office.

During his career in consumer electronics and IT business and innovation, Ishida has held corporate executive and advisory positions at Sony Corporation, Rakuten Corporation and LG Display Japan Co.

In other changes to the management team within Europe, Jun (Jeff) Ashida, currently president, Information Systems Europe, is promoted to the position of president, Sharp Electronics Europe, reporting to Ishida. Alex Hermann, currently vice president, Sharp Information Systems Europe, is promoted to the position of president, Sharp Information Systems Europe, reporting to Jun Ashida.

Ishida will continue to be based at Sharp Corporation’s Japanese headquarters with frequent travel to Europe, Ashida will remain based at Sharp Europe’s headquarters in the UK, and Hermann will remain based at Sharp Europe’s Zurich office.
