MFPs: The Primary Force Driving Growth in the African Printer Market

According to a new market report published by Transparency Market Research, the printer market in Africa is expected to reach $4.18 billion USD by 2019, growing at a CAGR of 8.8% from 2013 to 2019.

The increasing demand for multifunction printers (MFPs) is the main contributor to this growth trend. And the emergence of high speed laser printers and color laser printers is driving the need to replace the existing installed base of older machines.

According to the report, laser printers are expected to witness the highest growth among all products during the forecast period. “Laser printing has emerged as the key technology being used in MFPs and an increase in their demand by the corporate segment is leading to their growth in this region. Additionally, the low cost of laser printers is further fueling the demand for these printers in Africa,” the report claims.

Inkjet printers, on the other hand, are finding significant demand in large format printing owing to benefits such as environmental friendliness and better color rendition.

Geographically, South Africa is expected to witness the highest growth during the period. Botswana is also expected to demonstrate increasing growth in the printer market owing to the increasing deployment of laser color printers and MFPs across the telecom, banking and finance industries.
