Kyocera Campaigns to Tackle Fake Consumables

Kyocera revealed it has seized counterfeit goods totaling more than €5 million (approximately USD $ 5.67 million) since April, the beginning of its new financial year. This adds to the previous year’s confiscation of more than 100,000 units, the value totaling over €10 million (approximately USD $11.335 million). Accordingly, the OEM has launched a campaign to educate customers and partners on the risks of buying fake consumables. End-users are encouraged to only buy from authorized Kyocera consumables suppliers.

Jonathon Robbins, Consumables & Spares Sales Manager of Kyocera Document Solutions UK, said in a recent press interview: “It’s time to take the fight to the criminals, and stand up for resellers and businesses who are being duped into buying sub-standard products, often in good faith, by increasingly organized criminals”.

To support Kyocera, European leading wholesale office supplier VOW is working with the OEM to crack down on counterfeit products in the UK, reported dealersupport.co.uk.

Stuart Bleese, Category Manager for Technology at VOW, explained: “These counterfeit products are made to painstakingly replicate all aspects of the original products, from the branding to the packaging, which makes it extremely difficult for people to spot the ‘fakes’. Moreover, they’re sold at tempting low prices, making them an attractive alternative to genuine products.

“However, the consequences of using these counterfeit products, either in error, or knowingly as a cost saving, can be hugely detrimental to quality and output. Simply put, it’s dangerous to use or for resellers to sell to their customers as there is no way of knowing what’s inside a product.”
