HPPP: Green Printing for 25 Years

With the idea of decreasing the waste on earth created by printing, HP launched the HP Planet Partners (HPPP) 25 years ago to recycle HP printing supplies and the hardware of any brand. The organization has expanded to 73 countries and territories, with over 3.3 billion pounds of products and 682 million cartridges having been recycled.

HP defined the HP Planet Partners as a “closed-loop recycling process” intended to both satisfy the needs of customers and lessen the negative influence on the environment. Original HP cartridges are manufactured by converting millions of pounds of plastic that would otherwise end up in landfills.

According to HP, it has used over 3.3 billion plastic bottles, 50 million recycled hangers, and 177 million pounds of recycled cartridge plastic to produce the new Original ink or toner cartridges of HP.  No less than 80% of Original HP ink cartridges and around 38% of Original HP LaserJet toner cartridges have been manufactured with recycled plastic during the process of this closed-loop recycling.

HP’s adoption of such approaches in its product design, recovery processes, and business models and this revolutionary innovation produce printing supplies that are both sustainable and satisfying to the customer without reducing the quality or reliability of products.
