Epson EcoTank Printers to Rival Laser Printers

Epson has great expectations for its newly released EcoTank inkjet printers to compete with laser jet printers that dominate the office market, against competitors such as Hewlett-Packard and Canon. Epson President Minoru Usui pointed out that it is a sign of making “considerable inroads into commercial printing”.

Regarding future trends, Usui indicated that laser will lose market shares to inkjet printers, as laser has not much space to improve in areas such as fast printouts with high quality and low cost. He has confidence in saying “Eco-Tank, remember, uses dramatically less electricity to than laser. We think in innovation will allow us to take over in two to three years in offices.”

Although the EcoTank will reduce ink cartridge purchases, Epson doesn’t believe it will affect its consumables business, but rather offer new opportunities to transform the current consumables.

Epson stock has risen roughly 28% in the last two years, and it is estimated to rise over JP ¥3,000 (US $24.05) considering the contributions EcoTank printers may make to the stock.
