CPT: Still a Challenge for OEMs and Aftermarket

Dr. Xiao Guilin, Senior Engineer R&D in Hubei Dinglong Chemical Co., Ltd, detailed the development of current toner technologies at the 32th World Toner Conference 2015 in Wuhan, China.

Dr. Xiao said OEMs are investing more on the research of Chemical Polymerization Toner (CPT). Yet, CPT is a big challenge for both OEMs and aftermarket players, as it requires the participations of professionals in various areas, including polymer, physical chemistry, powder technology, etc.

Currently, the CPT market is not as large as we imagined and most OEMs and aftermarket companies haven’t recovered their cost in R&D. Dr. Xiao said we still have a long way to go!

Dr. Xiao believes the market will see increasing demand in polyester-based toner, featuring lower fixing temperature, softer core, harder and thinner shell compared with traditional toners. He also thinks the research and development of carries will play a vital role in toner development.
