Canon Business Process Services Wins $48 Million in Legal Industry Contracts

Canon Business Process Services announced that during the past six months it has won renewal contracts totaling over $48 million to provide outsourced document management and eDiscovery solutions to leading law firms, many of which are ranked in the 2013 Am Law 200. The contracts, which were renewed without competitive bidding, span services for firms with multi-city operations and include records management, onsite litigation support, print/copy center and mail management as well as office administrative services.

As an example of the value Canon Business Process Services provides, an internationally recognized law firm saw an opportunity to work with Canon to improve its records management, mail and print/copy center operations.

To help improve the firm’s records management function, Canon created a records retention policy and procedures by indexing thousands of documents that were stored offsite. This freed up office space, increased efficiency and enhanced compliance.

The firm also tapped Canon to launch new print/copy center and mail management workflows as well as implement a performance management system. These approaches have yielded benefits in the form of reduced document process management costs and the ability to drive continuous improvement in print/copy and mail operations. Additionally, Canon upgraded the firm’s print/copy fleet to digital and networked multifunctional devices (MFDs) that combine print, copy, fax and scan-to-email capabilities in one unit. The result has been significantly improved operational efficiency.

Canon provides outsourced document management and electronic discovery services to 64 of the Am Law 200 firms. This includes four of the top 10 firms and eight of the top 20 firms. Besides working with legal industry leaders, Canon Business Process Services itself is a recognized leader. Earlier this year the company was ranked in the Leaders Category of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’ (IAOP) 2013 Global Outsourcing 100 list for the past seven years in a row.
