Apex Intros New Multifunctional Terminal Chip Solution

Apex Microelectronics has launched new multifunctional terminal chip solutions for Samsung and Dell cartridges stating it “has designed patent avoidance into the replacement chip” for the Samsung CLT-405 Series cartridges and the product is a first of its kind. Samples are available now.

Apex claims the new products can be used for Samsung CLT-K405S, MLT-D116, CLT-406S, CLT-K407S, CLT-K4072S, CLT-K4073S, CLT-C409S/XIL, CLT-K4092S and MLT-D204S Series printers and Dell 1230C/1235CN Series. Apex also noted that Samsung CLT-405 Series cartridges have not been involved in the recent lawsuits, but they share the same structure with the Samsung CLT-406 Series cartridges. Therefore, the company predicts that the CLT-405 Series will be protected under its data communication terminal patents.

According to Apex, Samsung has filed lawsuits to protect its IP right in Europe since November 2013. The current lawsuits have been related to three data communication terminal arrangement patents, including EP 2397914 B1, EP2256559, and EP2325701.The OEM has sued more than 14 European distributors from Germany, the Netherlands and France.  Printer models involved in these lawsuits are Samsung CLP-310/CLX-3170, CLP-320/CLX-3180, CLP-365/CLX-3305, CLP-360, CLP-610/620 Series, Xpress M2825/M4025/2875, ProXpress 4075 Series, and monochrome ML-1660 Series. Cartridges used in those printers are Samsung CLT-409, CLT-407, CLT-406, MLT-D116, MLT-D204, etc.

In addition, Apex believes the new chip solution is “the only solution in industry that avoids the mentioned patents by means of chip design, and does not require any cartridge modification.” Also, the company said it has applied for patents worldwide on this solution.

Apex Microelectronics is universally recognized as the largest chip manufacturer supporting the global imaging aftermarket. The company holds 200 chip technology patents, with many more pending and also has patented SOC technology, crucial to keeping pace with OEM chip innovations. Apex Microelectronics employs more than 200 talented and highly qualified electronic technicians for in-house research, development and manufacturing.

Apex declares that it “recognizes and respects all Intellectual property owned by others and expects all others to reciprocate accordingly.”
