Kyocera Delivers Record Q1 Results Driven by AI Boom
Kyocera Corporation has reported record-high quarterly sales and earnings for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, lifted by accelerating global demand for artificial intelligence data center components and favorable foreign exchange rates.

Consolidated sales revenue for the three-month period grew 9.9% year-on-year to 525.38 billion yen (US$ 3.33 billion). Profitability experienced a dramatic expansion, with operating profit surging 164.7% to 49.10 billion yen (US$ 0.31 billion), while profit before income taxes climbed 68.1% to 74.89 billion yen (US$ 0.47 billion). Beyond operational strength, earnings received a substantial foreign exchange boost from a weaker Japanese yen.
The surge in quarterly profitability was primarily spearheaded by Kyocera’s hardware components segments catering to advanced computing. Revenue in the Core Components Business expanded 22.1% year-on-year to 178.08 billion yen (US$ 1.13 billion), generating a 67.9% jump in business profit to 23.83 billion yen (US$ 0.15 billion).
In contrast, the Solutions Business saw sales revenue dip slightly by 2.1% to 247.63 billion yen (US$ 1.57 billion) due to the divestment of a U.S. Industrial Tools subsidiary in early 2026. Nevertheless, enhanced profitability in core ongoing operations—particularly within the Document Solutions Unit—helped business profit for the segment leap 60.7% to 30.33 billion yen (US$ 0.19 billion).
Encouraged by earlier-than-expected demand growth in AI and semiconductor-related markets, Kyocera revised its full-year fiscal 2027 financial targets upward. To sustain this growth narrative, Kyocera outlined a medium-term strategic investment blueprint calling for approximately 650 billion yen (US$ 4.12 billion) in capital expenditure for its components division over a six-year period through fiscal 2031. The company aims to expand its sales in advanced semiconductor and AI-related application areas by 2.8 times compared to fiscal 2026 levels.
