SATO Launches Next-Generation Industrial Label Printers

SATO Corporation has launched its next-generation flagship industrial label printers, the CL4-SXR and CL6-SXR, in Japan, with a phased global rollout. The new models represent the latest evolution of SATO’s industrial printing lineup, incorporating performance, usability and sustainability enhancements aimed at increasingly digitalised and labour-constrained workplaces.

Compared with previous models, the CL4-SXR and CL6-SXR deliver significantly higher printing speed and accuracy, alongside upgraded sensor technology, a redesigned user interface and artificial intelligence–based predictive maintenance capabilities. SATO positions the new printers as part of its effort to support customers undergoing digital transformation while maintaining operational reliability in demanding production environments.

Developed under SATO’s “Simple & Solid + Smart” design philosophy, the CL4-SXR and CL6-SXR combine speed, precision, durability and ease of use in a single platform. In high-precision mode, the printers achieve positional accuracy of up to ±0.3 millimetres, making them suitable for applications such as nameplates and small-format labels that require strict alignment. Productivity has also been improved, with print speeds reaching up to 18 inches per second at 203 dpi and 16 inches per second at 305 dpi.

The printers feature a newly designed peel-off mechanism optimised for ultra-thin labels and high-adhesive materials, with a movable peel sensor that allows precise detection of small or irregularly shaped labels. User interaction has been enhanced through a larger 4.3-inch colour touchscreen, complemented by a built-in speaker that provides voice guidance and on-screen instructions to support daily operation.

In addition, the CL4-SXR and CL6-SXR incorporate AI-driven condition monitoring to predict potential failures before they occur, enabling preventive maintenance and helping to ensure stable, long-term operation. Environmental considerations have also been addressed, with approximately 34% of the resin components made from recycled materials. The printers further include a function that allows printing from the first label, reducing label waste during setup.
