College Staff Jailed for Stealing Printer Supplies

Two British men took advantage of their IT employment positions to order printer cartridges, only to resell them on eBay.

According to the Examiner, ICT manager Richard Stewart Boynton and IT technician James Bellamy, were responsible for budgets of £250,000 and £60,000 respectively at Shelley College. Their crimes date back to 2013.

The two defendants were responsible for ordering IT equipment and printer cartridges for the college. However, investigations have found that the ordered items were neither used nor found in the school.

The college’s asset register, Patrick Palmer, said a delivery of toner cartridges, worth £6,000, on September 23, had not arrived but had been picked up by Bellamy. He told Leeds Court that £44,000 worth of printer toner had been ordered over the last two years, collected and taken to Boynton’s home to be sold on. The total loss to the college was £100,000.

Boynton was sentenced to two and a half years in jail, while Bellamy was given a nine month sentence, suspended for two years with 300 hours of unpaid work.
