RISO Launches Sideways-Type Inkjet Print Engines
Riso is set to begin accepting orders in Japan and Europe for two new sideways-type models in its Integlide series of inkjet print engines for short-run package printing.
The Integlide S3491 and S3461 are designed to print directly onto the sides of three-dimensional packaging, including erected corrugated cardboard boxes and paperboard containers. According to RISO, the systems are intended to bring on-demand, full-color printing into production environments where package designs, variable data and other information have traditionally been applied through separate processes such as flexographic printing, marking and labeling.
The new models complement RISO’s existing downward-type Integlide S3411 and S3211, which are designed for printing on sheet-form packaging and the top surfaces of packages. The sideways models print horizontally onto package sides and can be integrated into production lines either inline or offline, before or after packing.
The Integlide S3491 and S3461 can produce variable-data prints across an area of up to 310 mm by 2,004 mm on the sides of corrugated cardboard boxes and similar packages. When combined with a package transport module, the systems can print content-specific designs as well as information such as barcodes and manufacturing dates while packages are moving through the production line.
RISO said the systems can help reduce packaging inventory by allowing companies to purchase and store plain packages and add the required designs and information only when needed. On-demand full-color printing can also provide greater flexibility for package designs and support efforts to increase the value of finished packaging.
