Ricoh Reports Sales Growth in Q1

RicohAccording to Ricoh, sales for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2022 (Q1, 2022) increased by 8.1% as compared to the previous corresponding period, to JPY¥459.3 billion (US$3.43 billion). “Growth and sales recovered moderately due to the continued impact of material shortages and COVID-19. However, sales increased mainly due to the impact of the depreciation of the yen,” said the spokesperson of Ricoh.

In Japan, sales decreased by 4.4% as compared to the previous corresponding period, while sales in the overseas market increased by 16.6%. “Excluding effects of foreign currency fluctuations, sales in overseas would have increased by 4.8% as compared to the previous corresponding period,” said the spokesperson.

Some other highlights include:

  • Gross profit increased by 10.3% as compared to the previous corresponding period, to JPY¥168.0 billion (US$1.25 billion).
  • Operating profit increased by ¥3.9 billion compared to the previous corresponding period, to JPY¥9.6 billion (US$71.67 million).
  • Profit before income tax expenses increased by JPY¥3.5 billion (US$26.13 million) as compared to the previous corresponding period, to JPY¥11.2 billion (US$83.61 million).
  • Profit attributable to owners of the parent increased by JPY¥2.8 billion (US$20.90 million) as compared to the previous corresponding period, to JPY¥7.5 billion (US$55.99 million).

By segment, Digital Services sales were JPY¥368.5 billion (US$2.75 billion) and increased by 6.4% as compared to the previous corresponding period. Digital Services operating profit was JPY¥2.9 billion (US$21.65 million) and increased by JPY¥1.5 billion (US$11.20 million) as compared to the previous corresponding period.

Digital Product sales were JPY¥3.7 billion (US$27.62 million) and increased by 11.6% (Sales including intersegment sales were JPY¥99.4 billion (US$742.04 million) and increased by 11.1%) as compared to the previous corresponding period. Digital Products operating profit was JPY¥12.2 billion (US$91.08 million) and increased by JPY¥3.2 billion (US$23.89 million) as compared to the previous corresponding period.

For outlook 2022, Ricoh claims that initial forecasts remain unchanged.
