Fake Toners Seized and Arrests Made

Fake Toners Seized and Arrests MadeA man has been arrested and fake printer toners were seized during a police raid in Mumbai in India.

According to Times of India, crime branch officials acted on a tip-off and raided the warehouse—known locally as a “godown” in Goregaon, a suburb of Mumbai city.

Rs 3 crore (US$410,000) worth of counterfeit toners and cartridges were seized. Police arrested 32-year-old Vipul Dharmsi Sandha who is a resident of Malad. He has been booked under the IPC sections of the cheating, forgery and copyright act.

Datta Nalawade, the deputy commissioner of police—responsible for the crime squad—said the complaint had been lodged by the Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights. It is assumed that a printer OEM or a competitor lodged the original complaint.

It has also been found this is not the first time Vipul Dharmsi Sandha has been caught with fake cartridge products. Police say that he has confessed to the crime and is guilty of previous offences.

Previously, A&G Corporation took “necessary legal measures” to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its customers in India over the allegedly selling of fake OPC products using their A&G brand in January 2021. And HP has claimed counterfeit goods worth USD 6 million were seized by the authorities between November 2019 and July 2020 in India. On that occasion, HP worked with local authorities to conduct 78 raids which resulted in 68 arrests.
