Counterfeit Consumables Confiscated in UAE, Ghana

Authorities from Dubai and Ajman confiscated 6,200 counterfeit Brother toner cartridges and other consumables in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and detained a Dubai-based suspect. Meanwhile, HP-supported authorities in Ghana intercepted 20,000 counterfeit HP cartridges and components.

There is no doubt that cracking the prospering fake printer supplies industry is an endless endeavor. HP has conducted 1,000 investigations in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) over the last four years, leading to the seizure of 9 million counterfeit products and components.

Both OEMs and the remanufacturing industry are threatened by counterfeit supplies. In addition to the loss in business, remanufacturers may use toner or ink cartridges without knowing that they infringe existing patents.

Consequently, remanufacturing industry organizations like ETIRA and ITC are speaking out against counterfeiting and advising consumers how to identify and report these fraudulent products.
