Canon Boasts Thousands of Infringing Removals from Amazon rtmworldCanon Inc. has tallied up all the listings of successful removals of allegedly infringing cartridges that were being sold online via Amazon.

In just the first half of 2020, Canon alleges it had a total of 3,092 removals from ten countries as follows:

  • 692 listings from Amazon in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America. Since June 2018, the total number of listings removed is 1,861. The listings offered third-party laser toner cartridges from vendors which Canon believes infringed one or more of U.S. Patent No. 8,280,278, U.S. Patent No. 8,630,564, U.S. Patent No. 8,682,215, U.S. Patent No. 8,688,008, U.S. Patent No. 8,676,090, U.S. Patent No. 8,588,646, U.S. Pat. No. 9,581,958, Canadian Patent No. 2,635,791, Canadian Patent No. 2,910,527, Mexican Patent No. 308881 and Mexican Patent No. 317598.

Canon has been the most diligent of printer OEMs to seek Amazon’s support to remove what it claims are products being sold online that infringe its patents. It has also been more diligent in 2020 than it was in 2018 and 2019.
