More Infringing Cartridges Seized – Berto at the border

Section 337 was introduced to protect U.S. domestic industries from unfair competition brought on by the importing of goods into the United States made by foreign companies that infringe U.S. patents. Over the years, Section 337 has developed into one of the primary means for U.S. companies to protect their intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, from infringing imports. In 2016, OEMs continued to take more action in the USA over infringing cartridges entering the country. In separate cases, compatible Epson inkjet cartridges were seized by border authorities that infringed General Exclusion orders, or GEOs, set by the US International Trade Commission.

It’s interesting to note that more cartridge forfeitures and seizures have been exercised in 2016 than any previous year.
The Commission issued eight GEOs that support the claims by various OEMs. And seven GEOs have been infringed 152 times. 71 out of those 152 orders were issued in 2016 alone.
